OUR FACULTY AND STAFF consists of established performing arts professionals who are also available for private coaching and audition preparation. Their committment and expertise help us to create a wonderful introduction for students new to performing arts, enriching opportunities for continuing students to expand their artistic horizons, and valuable experiences for those contemplating a future in the performing arts.
KRISTINE LOWRY DETURK (Managing Director, Director)
has been conducting
performance arts workshops for children, in collaboration with her husband Scott,
for the past twelve years. She studied early childhood development at Sonoma
State and held the positions of Preschool Director at Mega Gymnastics and
Preschool Director with San Francisco Dance Theatre under Jodi White. Her
directing credits include: A Little
Princess, a world premier of a young performers version of Quilters and three original pieces,
conceived and written with her husband; I'm
Stressin' Out, The Right Step and
Peace and Harmony. She also produced A Play On Words, another original work
directed by Jeffrey Bihr. Kristine studied theatre at The Pacific Conservatory
of the Performing Arts where she appeared as Lizzie in The Rainmaker. Bay area credits include featured roles in Enchanted April, The Shadow Box, Alice Underground, Woman in Black, Becoming
Memories, Cabaret, Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Picnic, Sweeney Todd, A Chorus Line,
The Music Man, Falsettos, Spitfire Grill, Hats, Death of a Salesman, New Wrinkles
and others.
SCOTT DETURK (Musical Director, Composer)
graduated from
the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Music in
composition. He has lived in Los Angeles, New York, Denver and the San
Francisco area, where he has worked extensively in theater, film, television
and recording, as a composer, arranger, orchestrator and musical director.
Scott has nine published musicals, including Western Star, published by Music Theater International; A Boy Called Lizard and Yo Ho Ho (A Pirate's Christmas), both recently published by Samuel French;
and six musicals published by Pioneer Drama Services. Scott also collaborated
on the award winning musical, The Ghost
& Mrs. Muir as well as Dorian,
Pest Control, The Thief, and Insanity, all
of which have been produced in Los Angeles within the last five years. He
is currently writing a new musical, Born
& Raised with writer-director Jon Tracy which had a workshop production
in May of 2011 at the Berkeley Playhouse. Scott has also worked as a
writer and composer for numerous commercial clients including: Disney, Hughes Aircraft, Maxtor, Time
Warner, HBO, ESPN and ABC Television.
Scott is currently the musical director at Marin School of the Arts for
their musical theater program as well as the Community Congregational Church in
Tiburon. As a composer, musical director and accompanist he has worked with
numerous Broadway performers including; James Barbour, Armelia McQueen, Josie
DeGuzman, Yvette Lawrence, Beth Malone, James Clow, Terri Bibb, Catherine McPhee,
Lynn Winterstellar, DeLyse Lively, Eddie Mekka, Barbra Luna, Matt Cavanaugh,
Max Von Essen, David Burnham and Tony winners, Beth Leavel and Cleavant
Derricks.
